NATO releases photos of Russian tanks. U.S. Senate calls for tougher sanctions against Russia
6/14/2014 8:37:28 PM

NATO on its website published satellite photos which confirm the arrival of Russian military equipment to Ukraine. The pictures show that "Russia remains publicly accountable for its actions", according to NATO.

On the eve, the US State Department accused Russia of supplying Russian terrorists with T-64 tanks and Grad multiple rocket launchers.A map shows movement of tanks near the border with Ukraine in Novocherkassk, Rostov region of Russia. In a series of pictures NATO analyzes tanks, filmed in Makeyevka, Donetsk region of Ukraine.

"These tanks are not marked and does not look like those used by the Ukrainian military. They resemble those used by the Russian side, and were involved in destabilization of Crimea", a newspaper, Ukrainskaya Pravda, quotes the NATO report.

Another unmarked T-64 tank was filmed outside the Ukrainian city of Snizhne. The NATO pays attention to the fact that the tank has also no markings, but its color is different from T-64s used in the Ukrainian army. Russia does not now use T-64 tanks, however, as indicated by NATO, Russia stores about two thousand tanks of this type, many of which are "still in operating condition".

The Alliance stated that these photos raise significant questions concerning Russia's role "in facilitating instability in eastern Ukraine and its involvement in the movement of military equipment from the Russian territory into Ukraine".

"Russian officials have been repeatedly misleading and evasive regarding their roles in both Crimea and eastern Ukraine. It is important to bring relevant facts to light in an effort to ensure that Russia remains publicly accountable for its actions", indicates the Alliance.

Meanwhile, Americans demand from Obama to toughen finally sanctions against the Kremlin junta.

The head of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Democrat Robert Menendez asked the Obama administration to consider additional sanctions against Russia.

Mr. Menendez said that sanctions against several Russian sectors of the economy should be applied in connection with hostile and destabilizing actions of Russia in Ukraine.

The senator said Russia continues to encourage, support and equip units of Russian terrorists in Ukraine who attack its security forces.

In addition, Mr. Menendez drew attention to the fact that Russian tanks had crossed the border with Ukraine, which is "a significant escalation of the conflict that cannot be ignored by the international community".

"I strongly encourage the Administration to exercise authorities to impose sanctions against persons operating in sectors of the Russian Federation economy, such as financial services, energy, metals and mining, engineering, and defense and related materiel", said in a letter to Obama, published on the senator's official website.

However, he proposes to impose sanctions with "grace period" so that American companies have time to wrap up their affairs in Russia.

Earlier, the US and EU imposed sham "sanctions" for a tick against individual Russian criminals and Putin's gang companies in connection with the Russian-Ukrainian War and annexation of Ukrainian Crimea by the Moscow junta.
