Russia vs KC. KGB needs 'liberal' radio, so that Russian liberals do not read the Kavkaz Center
6/21/2014 10:20:23 PM

On Russian section of the Internet, a message by a user called Azzim is now widely distributed. it concerns the usefulness for the KGB of a Moscow "liberal" Gazprom radio station Ekho Moskvy (Echo of Moscow). The KGB man, Azzim, writes:

"First, the Ekho channelizes the opinion of the opposition.

Second, the Ekho is positioned by Venediktov (editor-in-chief of the "Ekho" - KC) as a commercial project.

Third, the Ekho allows us to argue reasonably that we have free media. This is important in dealing with foreigners, employees of such institutions as the "Institute for Development of Civil Society".

The Ekho has its audience of ideological liberals and all the crazies in Moscow. It includes advertising which brings good money for Venediktov. This is business (it's not bad and not good, it is normal). And Venediktov himself is a rather peculiar person. Check out his interview with the state TV, where he deals with all these American lackeys.

After seeing that interview, I got a kind of admiration for this Venediktov, although most of Ekho's programs leaves me indifferent, because, well, it's not my cup of tea. Remember, media types like the Ekho exist , and they will because it's better to have all these rascals are better kept tightly hoarded and supervised within a sandbox of media space than to allow them to wander freely around such places as the Kavkaz Center.

It is lesser of two evils. We can not completely suppress the freedom of expression and speech as we did back in the late Soviet Union with "the Voice of America" which was listened at nights despite the barriers of jamming - all that should be a lesson for us.

The Ekho promotes the development of immunity in the young growing body of our beloved homeland. Remember, what uniformity in the USSR media resulted in. People completely lost critical perception of information due to Soviet newspapers and TV because they knew that it had been checked three times and corresponded to the Party Line. People believed in everything that was printed. Then it was a blow on us- in a cruel twist of historical irony- during the perestroika. At that time, total nonsense was printed, and people habitually believed i it.

The Ekho performs an important and necessary role in our society. People should learn to separate the wheat from the chaff. We should help them to make the right choice, but ultimately it should be their choice".
