IRAQ. IS units capture factory producing chemical weapons
7/9/2014 11:23:20 AM

Shiite regime in Baghdad reported that abandoned factory for the production of chemical weapons in Muthanna province came under the control of the Ad Dawla al-Islamiyya/Islamic State (IS) units (former Ad Dawla al-Islamiyya fi al-Iraq wa ash-Sham/Islamic State of Iraq and Levant (ISIL), which declared caliphate).

Remnants of rockets with sarin and other nerve agents are stored in a warehouse of the weapons plant, located 70 kilometers north-west of Baghdad. UN and US experts say that the IS could not use the captured arsenal for creating chemical weapons.

These facts were disclosed in a letter sent to Ban Ki-moon by a representative of the Baghdad regime in the UN, Mohamed Ali Alhakim. It turned out that the plant was captured on June 11. The plant's security staff was disarmed.

"As a result of the capture, Iraq is unable to fulfill its obligations on chemical weapons destruction", complained Baghdad.

There is evidence that the warehouses in Muthanna stored 2,500 rockets with nerve gases, including sarin and mustard gas. However, Western experts say that they were disabled "and are not dangerous".

Meanwhile, a rift grows between the IS and military units called Naqshbandi Army, consisting of former members of Saddam's ruling Baath Socialist Party.

It is to be recalled that the capture of Mosul and other cities in northern Iraq was carried out by different groups of Sunni tribal and Islamic groups, as well as by members of the former regime of Saddam Hussein.

The Naqshbandi Army allied with the IS. Democratic media claim that the head of this army is one of the people closest to Saddam Hussein, General Izat Ibrahim al-Douri, a former special forces commander under Saddam, Waad Hannushi, and a former leader of the Socialist Party Baath Sayfeddin al-Mashhadani.

And now friction was reportedly started among the allies that may lead to an armed confrontation.
