Former Georgian president: ''It is a dangerous period now - Putin always attacks in August''
8/8/2014 9:33:11 AM

According to Polish media, the former Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili arrived to Warsaw and called for unity in the face of the situation in Ukraine.

- We are entering a very dangerous period, and now we must be united (...) Putin (Russians) always attacks in August - it occurred in the 1990s in Abkhazia, it happened in Georgia, it happened in Chechnya, the Georgian president specified.

- In August, most Western leaders are on vacation. Putin knows it, and he attacks when they have no time to react quickly. He attacks usually at night, under additional cover provided by the darkness, Saakashvili said at a press conference.

Saakashvili recalled Polish President Lech Kaczynski.

- We always remember what he did for Georgia in 2008. Although many people claimed that it was not a wise move, he stood firmly facing Russian troops and saved Georgia. If he were alive today, then, of course, he would have acted the same way with regard to Ukraine, said Saakashvili.

Former Georgian president was angered by some actions of the European Union

- The EU should stop sending Putin the Mistral ships, it's not a commercial deal. By sending these ships, France contributes to the outbreak of a war.

These ships are especially dangerous for Georgia. With their help, Russia would be able to finish off Georgia in seven hours. This deal must be stopped.

Besides, the European Union should freeze accounts of all Russian banks, and not only those of some of them, and the EU should finally respond militarily, urged Saakashvili.
