8/22/2014 9:52:54 PM
The command of Kurdish Peshmerga forces reiterated that with the help of the United States air forces the Mosul dam was retaken from the Ad Dawla al-Islamiyya/Islamic State (IS) units and is now under the control of the Peshmerga. Reuters published a photo report that shows Kurds on the dam.
Meanwhile, Americans report that on Thursday and Friday, in the area of the dam, there was ongoing bombardments of the positions of the IS. Pentagon spokesman reported on the new strikes and casualties of the IS.
Sources of IS do not comment on reports of the capture of the dam by Kurdish gangs. Earlier it was reported that all the attacks of the Kurds were repulsed and one of the Peshmerga battalion was ambushed, surrounded and destroyed.
In social networks, in IS account they wrote about fightings in Tikrit in which IS units downed a warplane of Baghdad regime. Earlier, the Shiite regime announced the next assault on Tikrit. All previous attacks by Shiites failed.
Meanwhile, some media claim that there was a split between the IS and their allies in the Iraqi-Sunni tribes fighting against Shiite regime. Turkish Anadolu news agency reported on the fighting between the IS and the units of the Jaish al-Mujahideen/Army o Mujahideen (AM).
According to the agency, the command of AM, which had been created in 2003 to fight against the US forces, accused the IS in tafkirism on Muslims, who do not recognize the authority of IS, and on this basis kill Muslims.
It was also reported about local Iraqi Sunni tribes moving against the IS in the Anbar Province. Fightings broke out in the town of al-Karama, which is 13 km away from the city of Fallujah. Anadolu reported that a few days ago, the Sunni tribes and IS fought together against the Shiite regime.
On Friday, more than 70 Muslims were killed and dozens injured in an attack on a mosque in the Diyala Province in eastern Iraq. The armed men opened fire on those who came to the traditional Friday prayers.
Later it became known that the attack was organized by the Shiite militants. The Guardian wrotes about this.
