IRAQ. Fighting in Iraq. U.S. believes IS not pose direct threat to America
8/30/2014 1:19:05 PM

Western sources have reported about new air raids by Americans on position of Ad Dawla al-Islamiyya/Islamic State (IS) units in Iraq. Turkish news agency Anadolu reports about the air strikes in the south and west of the city of ar-Ramadi, Iraq's al-Anbar province. It is argued that the IS units allegedly suffered heavy losses in manpower and equipment, but no exact figures are given.

Baghdad regime confirms that the air attacks of infidels are designed to help the Shiite army in military action against the IS.

In turn, the Shiite forces dropped barrel bombs on the city of al-Fallujah. Most of those killed and wounded are civilians, including at least 11 women and children.

Fightings are also continuing for the city of Tikrit. Sources of IS claimed large losses of Shiite forces during ambush operation on the outskirts of Tikrit. Baghdad regime continues attempts to capture the city. It is also reported the capture of a group of Kurdish Peshmerga by units of IS.

Meanwhile, the United States authorities have stated that the IS does not pose a particular threat to America.

"At present, the US Department of Homeland Security and the FBI are unaware of any specific, credible threat to the US homeland from IS", said the United States Secretary of Homeland Security Johnson.

However, Washington believes that the IS "constitutes threat to the region where it operates, and is particularly concerned about former foreign fighters in Syria and Iraq who have British or other European passports that would allow them to enter the United States with instant visas and minimal security vetting".

White House spokesman Josh Ernest, said however, that the United States has "no plans to change the current level of "terrorist threat".

In turn, Barack Obama announced that Washington has no clear strategy on how to deal with the IS. He stated this at a press conference at the White House.

Replying to a question whether he needs the sanction of Congress to the actions of the United States in Syria against the IS, Obama said that "in the course of the development of the strategy, we will have extensive consultations with the Congress".

Earlier, authorities in the United States have repeatedly stated that they will not extend the attack on the IS and their purpose is to protect the interests of the United States in Iraq, in particular, on the Kurdish territories.
