IRAQ. Fightings between Kurds and IS
8/11/2014 1:39:40 PM

As a result of fierce fightings in Mosul area, gangs of Kurdish Peshmerga forces managed to force out the Ad Dawla al-Islamiyya/Islamic State (IS) from the towns of Guver and Makhmur.

The Kurds claimed that IS units suffered heavy losses and that this success was made possible with support of American air forces which conducted a series of air strikes on the positions of the IS in the conflict zone.

Earlier, IS units launched an offensive against the Kurdish regional capital of Arbil, in which, as it turned out, the Americans themselves have been stationed. Washington that had not responded to the exodus of Shiite army from Mosul and a number of towns in the north of Iraq, where Sunni Arabs mainly lived, considered the attack on the Kurdish territory as a threat to American interests. Earlier, Obama announced the start of air strikes on the positions of the IS forces to stop their advance.

Meanwhile, clashes between the Kurds and IS units are taking place in other parts of Iraq. On Monday, an IS unit launched an offensive against the Kurds in Jalawla north-east of Baghdad. The Kurds had left the town with a 60,000 population, and Jalawla came under the control of the IS. The Kurdish command announced it sent reinforcements to Jalawla to retake the town.

Against this background, America declared that it had started supplying weapons to Kurdish Peshmerga gangs.
