Al Arabiya: IS relocate its troops in preparation for possible US air strikes
9/18/2014 7:48:05 PM

Al Arabiya and AFP claim that Ad Dawla al-Islamiyya/Islamic State (IS) are relocating its troops in Syria, in preparation for possible air strikes by the US.

Journalists are referring to a some "activist of IS" called Abu Osama, who allegedly himself contacted the AFP via the Internet and said that the IS is leaving the province of Deir ez-Zor.

It is also claimed that in the city of Mayadeen near the Iraqi border, IS pulled out of eight bases, leaving only three open -- the (former) post office, the military intelligence building and the religious court.

The IS have allegedly completely left the town Eshara, even emptying out the oil fields, which brought the IS great income. "The families of the foreign jihadists have been evacuated", added IS official Abu Osama, according to AFP.

AFP writes that in the northern Syrian city of Raqqa, IS' main bastion, the fighters have maintained their positions. In addition, according to the Reuters, IS units began the offensive against the Kurds and captured at least 16 Kurdish villages in northern Syria, near the Turkish border.

The command of the Kurdish groups YPG urged the West and the United States to provide them with "immediate assistance". Kurds have also called on their compatriots in Turkey to come to Syria to fight against the IS.

It is to be mentioned in this context that the official sources of the IS had no immediate comment on the reports by Al Arabiya and AFP. Any independent evidence from sources inside Syria on the redeployment of IS forces have also not been reported.

Earlier, the British media outlets, especially The Guardian reported on the withdrawal of IS groups from Iraq' Mosul for deployment to Tikrit, and the transfer of control over Mosul to groups of Saddam's Baath party, but this information was subsequently refuted. Therefore, the claims of the Western sources requires additional chekcing and confirmation.

Meanwhile, on Thursday there were reports of the aerial strikes on the city of Raqqa. At least one plane of Assadites was shot down by anti-aircraft guns of IS (see the video).
