CIA: Moscow's claims to Baltic States are not just propaganda game
9/18/2014 10:18:30 AM

According to the Lithuanian news portal ELTA referring to a leading American expert on Russia, expert of World Policy Institute of US", the former analyst of the CIA Paul Goble, the Russian government is laying the foundation of the Ukrainian scenario in the Baltic countries, claiming that they violate the "rights" of Russian colonists, and the West does not contradict to these actions.

According to Moscow, Russia is forced by current circumstances to protect the "Russian world", says Paul Goble.

Mr. Goble, a former adviser to Secretary of State John Kerry, drew attention to the thoughts recently expressed by Russian "foreign ministry" gang's chief monitor of "human rights, democracy and the rule of law", Dolgov.

According to the expert, Dolgov's words are important and worrying.

"Firstly, it's like trying to revive the old tactics of Moscow, according to which they want to make sure that the West stops assisting the Baltic countries that are countries of the EU and NATO, in terms of their attitudes toward ethnic Russian and Russian-speaking. In the past, this tactic often justified itself", said Mr. Goble.

"Secondly, Dolgov clearly linked the situation in the Baltic states to the events in Ukraine after the protests on Maidan Swuare earlier this year, pointing out that in this case, "sad" and "serious" consequences was Kiev's position on the status of the Russian language. Among other things, such a complaint in connection with a violation of the rights of Russian-speakers in Ukraine began before the Russian invasion", said Mr. Goble.

"Thirdly, Dolgov openly called ethnic Russian and Russian-speakers in the Baltic States to be more active and promised Moscow's help. Despite the fact that it can be regarded as propaganda, but, unfortunately, there is strong reason to believe that it's more than just propaganda", said the expert.
