TWITTER criticized in America for promoting KGB censorship
5/24/2014 10:47:50 AM
American human rights organization Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) criticized a KGB-loving Twitter Inc, which had banned on a KGB order the Kavkaz Center news agency and is banning within an hour (on a tip from the KGB) every new account that the KC is trying to open.
Strictly in accordance with democratic traditions, the Kavkaz Center world ban is not mentioned in the protest. As an example, the EFF only mentioned a limited local ban of the Ukrainian nationalist movement Right Sector inside Russia, and bans of the websites of "two independent newspapers" and "websites of political opponents Alexei Navalny and Garry Kasparov", which is not directly related to Twitter Inc.
The ban of the Twitter account of the Right Sector inside Russia by Twitter Inc is an act of political censorship, indicates the EFF.
The EFF pointed out that Twitter had no reason to restrict the access to the Right Sector account. The account distributes only social and political information. Russian authorities consider it extremist, but the social network itself, which has no representation or any property in Russia, was not obliged to comply with the Kremlin demands.
"We could expect that Twitter would comply only with court orders from the United Kingdom, Ireland, Japan, and Germany, where they have significant assets or employees…"
The EFF notes that the Twitter company should not submit to Russian courts. If Twitter can not stand up for freedom of speech inside Russia where the press is constantly under pressure from the government, then who will?, the EFF asks, and adds that if Russia blocks all access to Twitter, as this country is threatening to do, then the human rights organization Electronic Frontier Foundation will not defend it because the Twitter Inc is an element of censorship, albeit its censorship is weak as compared to Facebook and Google which largely fulfill government requirements.
Censorship is censorship, remind the human right defenders to Twitter Inc.
