NATO prepares plan for military response to Russia's aggression in Ukraine
6/6/2014 2:36:08 PM

According to the Baltic news agency BNS, the NATO prepares a plan for military response to Russia's aggression. Defense ministers of the Alliance agreed on this at a meeting on Wednesday.

As reported by the Lithuanian defense ministry, the action plan strengthens the NATO collective defense in face of the Russian aggression in Ukraine, provides more military exercises, increases military infrastructure, provides a possibility of using NATO Response Force, upgrades defense plans and outlines a possible deployment of NATO forces of the Defense Alliance on the borders with Russia.

"All NATO countries agree that Russia's actions in Ukraine will have a lasting impact on our security climate", said after the meeting the Lithuanian Minister Juozas Olekas.

The minister said the NATO clearly demonstrated that the countries confronted with the Russian threat would not be alone. He also noted the importance of making decisions about necessary changes in response to the emerging threat emanating from Russia at the NATO summit in Wales.

At the meeting, the NATO ministers focused on increasing defense funding. Many countries reported about decisions to increase defense spending this year or their intent in increasing the spending next year.

Mr. Olekas also reminded about a political decision by Lithuania on gradual increase in defense to fight the Russian aggressor.
