NATO releases images of Russian tanks. U.S. Senate calls for tougher sanctions against Russia
6/14/2014 8:37:28 PM

NATO on its website provided satellite images, which confirm entering of Russian military equipment  the territory of Ukraine. The pictures "to ensure Russia remains publicly accountable for its actions", according to NATO.

On the eve the US State Department has accused Russia of supplying Russian terrorists of T-64 tanks and Grad multiple rocket launchers. A map provided showing moving of tanks near the border of Ukraine in Novocherkassk, Rostov region of Russia. In a series of pictures NATO analyzes tanks, filmed in Makeyevka, Donetsk region of Ukraine.

"These tanks are not marked and does not look like those used by the Ukrainian military. They are not marked, but resemble those used by the Russian side, and were involved in the destabilization of Crimea", a newspaper Ukrainian Truth quotes NATO report.

Another unmarked T-64 tank filmed outside the Ukrainian city of Snizhne. NATO pays attention to the fact that the tank has also no markings, but its color scheme is different from T-64 used in the Ukrainian army. Russia does not use T-64 tanks, however, as indicated by NATO, Russia has about two thousand tanks of this type, many of which are "still operating".

The Alliance stated that these images raise significant questions concerning Russia's role "in facilitating instability in eastern Ukraine and its involvement in the movement of military equipment from Russian territory into Ukraine".

"Russian officials have been repeatedly misleading and evasive regarding their roles in both Crimea and eastern Ukraine.  It is important to bring relevant facts to light in an effort to ensure Russia remains publicly accountable for its actions", indicates the Alliance.

Meanwhile, Americans demand Obama finally to toughen sanctions against the Kremlin junta.

Head of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Democrat Robert Menendez asked the Obama administration to consider additional sanctions against Russia.

Mr. Menendez said that sanctions against several Russian sectors of the economy should be applied in connection with the hostile and destabilizing actions of Russia in Ukraine.

A sane senator said Russia continues to encourage, support and equip units of Russian terrorists in Ukraine who attack security forces of Ukraine.

In addition, Mr. Menendez drew attention to the fact that Russian tanks had crossed the border with Ukraine, that "represents a significant escalation of the conflict that cannot be ignored by the international community".

"I strongly encourage the Administration to exercise authorities to impose sanctions against persons operating in sectors of the Russian Federation economy, such as financial services, energy, metals and mining, engineering, and defense and related materiel", said in a letter to Obama, published on the senator's official website.

However, he proposes to impose sanctions with "grace period" so American firms have time to wrap up their affairs in Russia.

Earlier, the US and EU imposed sham "sanctions" for a tick against individual Russian criminals and Putin gang companies in connection with the Russian-Ukrainian War and the Anschluss of the Ukrainian Crimea by Moscow junta.
