7/17. Pentagon conceals information from where the missile was launched
7/19/2014 1:59:33 PM
Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. John Kirby revealed that it is difficult to believe that the rebels responsible for downing the Malaysian airliner Thursday could have done it without assistance from the Russians.
CNN's Barbara Starr asked Kirby, "Have you seen evidence that an SA-11 or BUK missile system would cross the border at some point from Russia into Ukraine? And what can you tell us about that system and the sophistication and training that would be needed by Russian separatists to actually be able to operate it effectively?"
Kirby replied that he does not have information about the BUK missile system, but did not rule out that possibility. He called the SA-11- the missile thought to be used in the downing of the airliner- "a sophisticated piece of technology".
"It strains credulity to think that it could be used by separatists without at least some measure of Russian support and technical assistance," he added.
"They didn't just do it on their own?" Starr followed up.
Kirby reiterated his previous statement, "I said it strains credulity to think that they could do this without some measure of Russian support and assistance".
Meanwhile, according to media reports, Pentagon had to know the exact location of the missile launch. The question is whether it was launched from the territory occupied by terrorists, or from Russian motherland. If the aircraft was shot down from Russia, then the country is directly involved in international terrorism with all consequences for it.
Media outlets indicate that spotting the location of any missile launch poses no problem for Pentagon's satellites. This is their direct task in the system for early warning of enemy missile launches. America monitors launches of all surface to air missiles.
Meanwhile, the bodies in the area of the plane crash began to decompose due to heat, OSCE spokesman Michael Bochurkiv said. One of the terrorist leaders said that the governments of Malaysia and the Netherlands asked not to touch anything on the crash site and that have no place for corpses in freezers.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby said on Friday that the plane was shot down by a Russian SA-11 missile.
Asked by journalists whether the Russians downed the plane accidently, confusing it with an Ukrainian military transporter, or they did it deliberately, knowing full well that this is a civilian airliner, Obama replied:
"It's too early for us to be able to guess what the intentions of those who might have launched this surface-to-air missile might have had".
